Your Eye Examination

What we check, and why

Your eye examination goes beyond your prescription. Depending on the purpose of your visit, your symptoms and clinical needs, we may assess your vision, how your eyes work together and your eye health.

We explain the findings and guide you through any next steps.

Explore the cards below to learn more about the instruments and tests.

Objective measurements

WAM 700

Seven measurements in one scan

All from one machine:

  • Your prescription, measured objectively
  • How your vision behaves in low light
  • The shape of the cornea
  • The thickness of the cornea
  • The pressure inside the eye
  • The clarity of the lens
  • Pupil size, in bright and dim light

Pressure matters most when glaucoma runs in the family, and corneal thickness changes how that pressure should be read.

Retinal photograph

Retina 800

A closer look at your retina

Retinal photography captures a detailed image of the back of your eye, helping us:

  • Examine the retina, optic nerve and blood vessels.
  • Look for changes linked to diabetes, high blood pressure and other eye conditions.
  • Explain the findings using your own retinal image.
  • Compare images over time to monitor changes in your eye health.
External eye examination at the slit lamp

Slit lamp biomicroscope

A closer look at the front of your eye

A slit lamp uses light and magnification to help us:

  • Examine the eyelids, lashes and lid margins.
  • Assess the tear film and eye surface for signs of dry eye.
  • Check for scratches, injuries and signs of inflammation or infection.
  • Check for early signs of contact lens-related complications.
  • Screen for cataracts.
Axial length

Myopia Expert 700

Tracking eye growth. Mapping the cornea

These measurements support myopia care for children and adults with high myopia, as well as speciality contact lens fitting:

  • Axial length: measuring the eye from front to back, beyond what the prescription alone tells us.
  • Ongoing monitoring: comparing measurements from visit to visit to track changes in eye length.
  • Corneal mapping: measuring the shape of the cornea to guide the fitting and follow-up of speciality contact lenses, including Ortho-K.

Subjective Refraction & Binocular Vision Assessment

Subjective refraction fine-tunes your prescription accurately, so that you see clearly and comfortably. A new prescription can sometimes bring headaches, eyestrain or trouble reading up close. Often that is about how the two eyes work together and how well they focus at near with the new lenses. We check both before we finalise your prescription.

Did you know?

LASIK does not remove the retinal risks associated with high myopia. LASIK reshapes the cornea so that you can see clearly without glasses, but it does not undo the length the eye has already grown to. In high myopia, the eyeball is usually elongated, which means the axial length is longer than average. The risk of damage at the back of the eye rises with every additional millimetre. If your prescription was high before surgery, your retina should still be examined at the same recommended intervals.

A thinner cornea can also cause the pressure inside the eye to be underestimated. This is important when screening for glaucoma.

Myopia CARE by Menara

For children aged 4 to 17

Children may not realise their vision is unclear. Myopia CARE helps you understand and care for your child’s vision through:

  • Myopia management: eye growth is normal as children grow. We monitor axial length (eye length) for excessive elongation and recommend suitable options to help slow myopia progression.
  • Children’s eye care: assessing and managing lazy eye (amblyopia), eye coordination and alignment problems (such as an eye turning inwards or outwards), and other common childhood eye conditions, with referral when needed.

Clear guidance and ongoing care as your child grows.

Digital Eye CARE by Menara

For adults aged 18 to 45

Blue-light filtering or computer lenses may not be the whole answer. Tired eyes, headaches and blurred vision could be your eyes asking for help. We help you understand what is causing the discomfort by assessing key contributing factors, including:

  • Vision correction: checking for uncorrected or overcorrected prescriptions, including astigmatism, and recommending suitable correction.
  • Binocular vision: assessing and managing problems with how your eyes focus and work together.
  • Dry eye care: assessing your tear film and eye surface, and managing dryness, irritation and fluctuating vision.

Your eyes deserve care. We’re here to help.

Does your arm no longer feel long enough to read comfortably? Whether you are noticing changes in your own vision or looking after your parents, we’re here to help. A thorough eye examination is a simple, meaningful way to care for yourself and those you love.

  • Everyday vision: assessing changes in reading and distance vision, with suitable eyewear for daily needs.
  • Eye health checks: checking for cataracts, glaucoma, and eye changes related to diabetes and high blood pressure.
  • Coordinated care: helping you understand the findings, arranging hospital referrals and co-managing your eye care with eye specialists when needed.

Caring for the people who have always cared for you.

Myopia CARE

Smaller than an ant.
Just 1 mm.

As myopia progresses, the eye lengthens from front to back. A millimetre of that growth is nothing you can see, and nothing your child will feel. It shows up much later, at the back of the eye. That is why we follow axial length, which tells us more about long-term eye health than the prescription alone.

What we watch most

How fast it is growing

Every child’s eye grows with age, and that is normal. Our concern begins when the eye lengthens faster than expected for that age. If we spot a fast rate early, we can step in and slow it down.

Myopia management lenses
Stellest · MiYOSMART

Spectacle lenses designed to slow myopia progression. They are worn like ordinary glasses, so they change a child’s daily routine the least, which is why we usually discuss them first. They only work while they are worn, so full-time wear matters.

Orthokeratology
Coming soon

A rigid lens worn overnight that reshapes the cornea while your child sleeps. Nothing is worn during the day. It needs careful fitting and scheduled review.

Every visit measured

Whatever we start with, axial length is measured again at each review, so the eye is compared against itself and we can tell early whether it is working.

Two children can share the same prescription and still face very different futures. Myopia CARE follows how the eye is growing, so a fast rate is picked up while treatment is most likely to help.
